“We suffer because we believe lies—stories that aren’t true”

The Garden of Eden: A Living Metaphor
The story of the Garden of Eden is more than an ancient tale—it’s a timeless metaphor for the human journey. Its wisdom is as relevant today as ever.
At birth, we arrive in innocence—pure awareness, untouched by judgment or fear. Yet, as we grow, we internalize language, labels, and false stories. These inherited voices separate us from the truth of who we are: love, joy, and authenticity.
Eden = Pure Awareness & Innocence
In the beginning, Adam and Eve lived in harmony—present, connected, simply being. There was no inner chatter or judgment—only truth.
The Snake = The Voice of Knowledge (the Lie)
The serpent’s temptation to eat from the Tree of Knowledge represents the intrusion of judgment: good vs. evil, right vs. wrong.
When we “eat the fruit,” we believe the lie of separation. We take on shame, fear, and self-doubt. This is the moment we lose presence—trading direct experience for the endless chatter of the mind.
The Teaching
The mind is a storyteller, but it is not the truth. We confuse its voice with who we are and lose our connection to presence.
Instead of living in love, we become entangled in thought, judgment, and fear.
The Healing Path Back to Eden
Recognize: The voice in your head is not you. If it’s speaking—who’s listening?
Return to truth: Question your beliefs.
Practice presence: Cultivate silence, self-love, and awareness.
Live authentically: Root your life in direct experience, not inherited lies.
At the Garden of Eden, this metaphor guides our mission: to help people awaken from stories of separation and rediscover the wholeness of who they truly are.
Aloha,
I’m Carl, founding Trustee of the Garden of Eden. Our mission is rooted in the timeless metaphor of Eden. While we are creating a sanctuary that reflects the beauty and spirit of that garden, our deeper work is guiding humanity beyond the limitations of victimhood.
So many of us remain trapped—whether in physical addictions or in repeating cycles of negative thought patterns—that keep us in separation and disconnection. At Eden, we invite you to step into a new story. One of love, connection, and joy.
